A downloadable Avatar Creator Kit

Coming soon: improved documentation (documentation consists currently of finding me on tumblr as manyblinkinglights)! (Or see THIS hour-long, relatively pathetic video overview:

But don't be afraid to reach out to me directly!)

Now with UNITY EDITOR SCRIPT to expose all the fiddly bits! Drag it on to the avatar's topmost level in the Hierarchy. Way fewer shortcomings than it used to have! Go ahead and try it out!

And now:

The AnyTaur!

AnyTaurs are the closed species that can look like absolutely AnyThing! No, okay, I'm joking. They're a wearable animation rig base for translating Humanoid animation (and full-body tracking, including lying down and rolling all the way over!) onto four-or-more-legged "nonhumanoid" avatars, not their own species. And they can really only look like things whose legs move straight forward and back (the mammalian bauplan is generally fine; Final IK would be a better fit for crabs, accurate crocodilians, etc.)

DO NOT "TRY HARD" TO DO IT YOURSELF--if you have even minimal Blender skills already, you should not need to try HARD. If you're trying hard, you're probably doing something suuuuuper incorrectly, so contact me for help sooner rather than after hours or days of frustration!!!

The basic workflow is to rig your model as normal onto the StepOne blendfile (automatic weight paint, etc) and then to Append the StepTwo blendfile's Armature, merge it in, and set your hind.chest as a child of your new Hips. But there are lots of nuances...  use the included, finished AnyTaur as a reference!

Like what I do?

Yay! \o/

The constraints that run these AnyTaurs are FRAMERATE-DRIVEN, but I've taken steps to improve the V14's performance versus older iterations of this project.

i don't know where to contact you, you don't put anything that says where to contact you, and your twitter is locked to verified users only

You can contact me at manyblinkinglights.tumblr.com!

Holy moley thank you, Ive been working on my own quad avatar and unity humanoid hates it! Having a reference for one that actually works as intended is a great boon, thanks!

Disregard my previous comment if you saw it. In its place I'm leaving a compliment for the tons of work you've put into this! :D It looks fantastic and I look forward to using it on my models.
