AnyTaur Quadrupedal Avatar Kit - VRCConstraints Version - NO Final IK!
A downloadable Avatar Creator Kit
At last, with ChatGPT's help, I have finished my editor script! Drag it on to your AnyTaur's .fbx in the Hierarchy and go ahead and try it out! ONLY the C# editor script has been tainted by generative AI. But my "code" (such as it was) is all slimy and filthy with big chunks of LLM output in it now. ;)
And now, PRESENTING:
The v16 AnyTaur!
AnyTaurs are the closed species that can look like absolutely AnyThing! No, okay, I'm joking. They're a wearable animation rig base for translating Humanoid animation (and full-body tracking, including lying down and rolling all the way over!) onto four-legged "nonhumanoid" avatars, not their own species. And they can really only look like things with up to two wings whose legs move straight forward and back (the mammalian bauplan is generally fine; Final IK would be a better fit for crabs, accurate crocodilians, etc.)
YOU NEED MODEST BLENDER SKILLS TO USE THIS PROJECT.
The basic workflow is to rig your model as normal onto the StepOne blendfile (automatic weight paint, etc) and then to Append the result to the StepTwo blendfile's Armature, shift and scale the StepOne body to share a Head pivot with the StepTwo Humanoid core (don't change the size of the Humanoid core! There's size-based Contact stuff that depends on it later), merge things in, and then set your hind.chest as a child of your new Hips. But there are lots of nuances... use the included, finished AnyTaur blendfile as a reference!
If you're having trouble, go ahead and reach out to me on tumblr at Slapstick Tragic Spaceship Blackrom (manyblinkinglights.tumblr.com) once you've got your StepOne model fully weight painted! Investigate the example AnyTaur while you wait, and remember... like 98% of all problems are due to DISRUPTING THE HIERARCHY. Do not delete or reparent any bones (besides making hind.chest a child of Hips when you get that far)! If you aren't going to use some bones, HIDE THEM! They all NEED to be there for the script to work!
Like what I do?
Yay! \o/
The constraints that run these AnyTaurs are FRAMERATE-DRIVEN, but I've taken steps to improve the V16's performance versus older iterations of this project.
